Irish Men Try harder than women to please the other half

Irish Men try harder than Women to please the other half!

Irish men seem to try harder than women to please their other half, according to a new MaybeFriends.com survey! The poll found that our men spend way more time with their partner’s family and friends than they would like, make a big effort to get in shape to impress that special woman, spend hours hanging around changing rooms in shops.

384 men and women responded to the poll from MaybeFriends.com asking what they have done to impress the opposite sex. Just over half (50.7%) of the respondents were male while 49.3% were female. The survey was carried out this week.

Men:
Nearly 75% of the men have spent way too much time with her family and friends even though they would prefer to be alone with her. 63% have gone shopping with her and skulked for ages outside changing rooms! (Presumably the ones with her in it!)

An impressive 55% of men embarked on a fitness routine to get in shape and 57% of them also ate less. Of the fitness fanatics, 39% went to the gym, 30% went jogging and 31% played more sport.

Nearly 45% said they had given up something for a woman (as opposed to 32% of women giving up something for a guy!) – top answers were 30% giving up smoking and 17.5% giving up alcohol.

I was particularly impressed with the guys showing us their romantic side! Just over 38% of the men (as against 11% of the women) have done something pretty special to impress.

These gestures included flying across the world to surprise her, moving to live in her country, writing poetry/songs for her, booking surprise holidays, buying her a coat and contact lenses for dance lessons (both of these for the same girl!) and setting up a surprise picnic and camp by the sea. I’ve been with MaybeFriends.com since it started ten years ago and I am getting more and more convinced that Irish men are big softies underneath that devil-may-care attitude!

Nearly 38% endured hours and hours of her favourite soaps and TV programmes so they can talk to her about it. (Only 24% of women reciprocated!)

Asked if it was worth the effort, 40% said it wasn’t while just over 30% said it was and just under 30% said ‘Maybe’! So the jury’s out there then!

Women:
The figures for women doing things to impress men are much lower – with one exception – nearly 68% said they listened to him talk endlessly about his hopes and dreams – even though he never asked them about theirs! Oops! And nearly 42% of women pretended to have an avid interest in his job even though it bored them to death!

32% of women admitted to giving up something for a guy. A quarter of those gave up smoking while 10% gave up spending time with their friends and amongst the other things to go by the wayside for their man included a belly button ring, their sanity, nail polish, pride, freedom - and sex!

Only 24% of women studied the rules of soccer, rugby or golf so they could chat to a guy about his favourite pastime!

Just under 11% of the women said they had done something extra special including
o Had Christmas in January – complete with tree etc – as boyfriend wasn’t in Ireland in December;
o Was the main breadwinner for 15 years so he could follow his studies;
o Stood in the rain while he ran a full marathon;
o Told a guy to give his marriage another chance even though she didn’t want to;
o Spent a fortune on lots of birthday treats for him and he didn't even buy her a single gift for hers.
